I am not a mechanic or a representative of any motorcycle or tool manufacturer or anything else official. This page is only my notes on doing this procedure myself. Although I believe what I have documented here is correct, I make no promises and you do this at your own risk.
Objective
Removing the lower fairing bodywork on your bike allows access to the sides of the engine and the underside of the bike, including the oil pan and oil filter.
Required
Tools Required
- Rear stand (recommended)
- Phillips screwdrivers
- Hex wrenches (metric)
Procedure
The lower fairing is the plastic bodywork under your knees when you’re on the bike, that wraps under the bike. Although it’s made of 3-4 separate pieces, you don’t separate them — it comes off in one piece.
With a hex key, remove the 3 hex bolts on each side. These have a metal plug/washer on them — remove it too so it doesn’t fall off and get lost.
Again, write down where the bolts of different lengths came from.
Now the entire lower fairing can be pulled away from the bike and rotated underneath to be removed. Careful not to scratch it on the pavement under the bike.
